How To Prepare Your Submissions: Guidelines For Freelance Writers

So you have decided to try your hand at writing. I think you are in for a pleasant surprise. Freelance writing is the hottest thing on the internet right now. People are realizing that they can be self-employed and set their own work hours and make a great living. Now don’t get me wrong- you must be persistent and dedicated. You can’t be afraid of rejection. You have to stay focused with your eye on the prize and don’t give up. You have many areas that you can honestly say you are an expert. All you have to do is to write something and get someone to buy it! I am going to give you a few guidelines so that your article not only will get looked at and read, it may actually supply you with some income.

What is My Thesis?

The first and most important thing you have to do is decide what you want to write about. I might suggest that you write down everything you can possibly think of that you are interested in. Also write down everything you are skilled in. You are actually an expert in numerous fields. Write down as much as you can and get as detailed as you possibly can about what you want to write. Understand that you have a lot to offer and there are people out there that want to read what you have to offer. So now that you have been brainstorming, it is time to make the Big Pick. You need to pick your most favorite topic you have. Don’t let it be too general either. Find one that is very specific. Think about the editor sitting behind his big desk and what he may want to read. He could care less about a story about hunting- he has probably read a million of them. He might be interested in how to dress a deer once you have killed one. He may be interested in how to clean your gun and prepare it for hunting. Those stories are interesting and explain a skill. You are the expert on that topic and they will be willing to listen.

Spread Your Word

You can write a letter to the editor and ask him if he would like to read an article about your topic. He may say no--- so what. Get on the internet and find the thousands of website that come up when you put the words freelance writer in the search engine!!! Write your article and send it to anyone and everyone. SOMEONE will find it and may actually ask you to write about something associated with that topic and will pay you. You can also bid on thousands of jobs on the internet! Now you are on your way to being a freelance writer!
