What Is Freelance SEO Writing: Useful Recommendations For Starters

Okay, so if you are anything like the college kids that I know then you will be looking to earn some extra cash in the easiest possible manner, preferably by doing something that you love. Freelance writing is perfect because the sky is your limit in terms of your earning potential. If you are quite technical by nature and passionate about the virtual world then writing, SEO related content may be just the thing for you. Search Engine optimized web content is the most highly sought after out there at the moment. Unfortunately, a lot of clients have no idea what this means, they have just heard the term and, therefore “want” it. It is your job if hired, to ensure that you manage their expectations because the gap between what they expect and what you might realistically be able to deliver are enormous.

If I haven’t put you off yet, here are some helpful suggestions to help you get started:

Start with the basics

Before you even consider writing anything SEO related, I would suggest that you spend a couple of months just taking whatever gigs you can get. You need to be one-hundred percent confident in your ability to write clear, concise content before you throw anything else into the mix.

Do your research

If you have a background in SEO, whether that be via writing content for blogs or websites then so much the better. If not, then you are going to have to do a LOT of research before accepting your first assignment. Make sure you understand exactly what SEO involves, and how you can incorporate it into your content.

Consider subscribing to a Keyword analysis tool

If you are planning on incorporating SEO into your content on a regular basis then a keyword analysis tool will do the hard work for you. This is not something that you can just guess at and hope to come up trumps. There are some free options out there which you can start with, but generally they are inferior to the paid versions, which are not too costly but sometimes require a quarterly rather than a monthly subscription.

Start with existing clients

If you have followed my first step and built up a base of clients, then you could maybe offer to incorporate SEO into their content as a free trial. Then get them to track and monitor the results. This is a great way of fine-tuning your skills with minimal risk. Then, when you are confident that you know what you are doing you can start reaching for the stars.
